INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS CEFR

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment, abbreviated as CEFR, is a standard used to describe achievements of learners of foreign languages widely used as a system of validation of language ability. It is made up by six reference levels for grading an individual’s language proficiency.

The Common European Framework divides learners into three broad divisions that can be divided into six levels:

A Basic User

A1 Beginner

A2 Elementary

B Independent User

B1 Intermediate

B2 Upper intermediate

C Proficient User

C1 Advanced

C2 Proficiency

UTN students who graduate from the English Major are placed in C2 Proficiency because general and particular communicative competences are developed by producing or receiving texts under various conditions and constraints. These contexts correspond to various sectors of social life that the CEFR calls domains. At UTN, four domains are distinguished: educational, occupational, public, and personal.
